"The sun, situated at the bottom of the sky like a cadaver at the bottom of a pit, answers this inhuman cry with the spectral attraction of decomposition." - Georges Bataille
Nathan Gwynne's work takes a nomadic approach to media, fusing artistic values with social and psychological ones. In the exhibition Portable Sunset, new photographs, drawings, paintings, sculptures, and animation explore the metonymic and metaphoric connotations of the sunset. The work is influenced by nostalgia and the competing romantic impulses of home-sickness and far-sickness. A California native son returns and contemplates the sun. An artist's book will accompany the exhibition.
Nathan Gwynne is currently completing a MFA at Hunter College in New York, NY. Upcoming projects and exhibitions include the 4th Annual Art Parade, Deitch Projects, New York and Hooker Projects, Berlin.
