The Family is a key iconic image in Bearden’s art. Inspired by Juneteenth, the oldest African-American holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States, our Family Day activity honors ancestry and the preservation of family relationships. Visitors will create family trees and families will screen print a collage using their own hands as branches, and leaf shapes for writing in the names of their family members.
