Join us for a Free Day at MoAD celebrating Juneteenth and Father's Day. Enjoy the incredible Bay Area talent The Marcus Shelby Trio, listen to the tales woven by Storyteller Kirk Waller, learn the basics of how to conduct an oral history of a family or community member with Leah McGarrigle, and participate in a Free Write Family Poetry activity. Focusing on writing and the literary arts, two key areas of Bearden’s broad interests, the family program includes a free association poetry activity for families and the production of a wearable, recycled plastic bracelet based on the poems that are generated around community-related issues. In the Celebration Circle you can view African American Lives and Faces of America with Henry Louis Gates, Jr., and Juneteenth, a documentary on the historical celebration of emancipation in the Wells Fargo Heritage Center.
