BIG THINGS & Swarm Gallery are pleased to collaborate for a massive creative adventure with a Summer Solstice Party! Crafting, cooking, live music, performances and a marketplace of unique handmade and vintage goods. Come experience the sights, sounds, tastes, smells and feelings of summer! Saturday, June 18th, 2011 Swarm Gallery 560 Second Street Oakland, CA Doors open for event at 6PM $5 donation at the door Market with local designers and wares, including: + the Estruscan-inspired collection from the Oakland/Brooklyn design duo, Feral Childe; + Geometrically-patterned fashions designed & made in Oakland by Serial Cultura; + Natural scents and skincare made with love in San Francisco by Captain Blankenship; + Storefront installation/performance by renegade knitters Emily Jan, Síle Convery and the knit-one-one studio; + Art objects, found and hand-crafted jewelry from Swarm’s QUICK SHOP ART STOP and BIG THINGS SHOP! + And more surprises… Food served up fresh from Guerilla Grub. Live music will start at 7:30PM with: + PIKI (Sam Ospovat (of Oakland-based Beep!) with live projections by Miriam Lakes + Social Studies - Social Studies crafts intricate songs that combine angular indie rock and classic twee-pop + DJ Ben Bracken (Intl Freakout A Go Go) Summer Solstice screen-printed posters by Paul Morgan are $20! BIG THINGS is an art & culture blog aiming to inspire & motivate everyone to do BIG THINGS. Founder Rebecca Goldschmidt is constantly exploring, bringing bits and pieces of awesomeness from fashion, art, and even science, to the blog to share. With workshops and events planned through 2011 and beyond, she hopes to bring the essence of the website- fun, color, and a simple love of life- beyond the internet and into the global community. Swarm Gallery maintains a uniquely experimental world view, presenting ongoing exhibitions of innovative art by some of today’s most exciting artists. Swarm is also a project space, providing a platform for sound, video and installation-based work. We represent 16 artists whose latest works we feature in solo exhibitions, or pair with affiliate artists from around the world. Regular programming includes live music at our receptions, artist talks, experimental film nights, and collector events.
