Advance Tickets: feastofwords.eventbrite.com What Else: This month’s theme, inspired by The Book, is “Deconstruct.” SOMArts Cultural Center presents Feast of Words: A Literary Potluck, a monthly potluck hosted where writers and foodies come together on the 3rd Tuesday of each month to eat, write, and share. The next edition of Feast of Words will be hosted by Irina Zadov and guest-host, Jess Young. July’s theme “Deconstruct” is inspired by The Book, a multimedia installation which explores the relationship between artists and their work. July’s Feast of Words asks chefs and writers to consider their practice, break it open, and create anew. Through the examination of ingredients and literary devices our guests will generate new work and inspire their senses through a literary and culinary deconstruction. This edition of Feast of Words will include a reading by literary guest Cole Krawitz as well as delicious dishes by audience members and culinary guest Justin Belluomini, who will be deconstructing a paella. There will be a creative competition of on-the-spot writing inspired by the theme. Prizes include Litquake event tickets, and a spherification kit. Hooray, molecular gastronomy! House opens at 6:30pm on Tuesday, July 19th, 2011 and space is limited. Featured Literary Guest: Cole Krawitz (pictured above) is a Lambda Literary Fellow and holds a MFA in Creative Writing from Lesley University. Cole has been a Lecturer in June Jordan’s Poetry for the People Program at University of California, Berkeley and the MA in English Program at Holy Names University. He received the Be’chol Lashon Media Award in New Media in 2009 and a 2009 Tomales Bay Workshop Writer’s Conference Scholarship. His poems and articles have appeared widely in such publications as Tidal Basin Review, Connotation Press, Zeek, OCHO, Newsday and The Forward, and he was the founding editor of jvoices.com. He currently lives in Oakland, CA, with his heart roaming in the boroughs of New York City. Featured Culinary Guest: Justin Belluomini moved to the bay area in 2008, where he quickly joined the team at Zuni Cafe in order to study under the masters of California-Mediterranean cuisine. Justin took this experience to 1550 Hyde, where he worked directly with Peter Ericksson to design dishes that would delight and surprise their patrons. Wanting to try his hand at something different, Justin has joined up with San Francisco’s premier catering company, Taste Catering, where he has spearheaded the company’s in-house salumeria. Justin draws on a rich personal culinary tradition of Italian cuisine from his family (he still struggles to create a sunday gravy on par with that of his Nona), as well as Soul Food and Barbecue from his hometown of Memphis.
