"The only way to reconstitute yourself when you have been consistently misidentified is to confront subjectivity and perhaps even become the very thing that objectifies and categorizes you. I perform and document challenging activities and moments that have been recounted to me from my family history, chronicling the struggles that accompany these metaphors for our contemporary existence."
Bermuda-born Megan M. Morgan investigates the complexities and constraints of race, gender, and family history, the very things that inform identification. In still photography and video, her images aim to undermine the temptation of easy categorization.
Megan Morgan is a multidisciplinary artist who focuses primarily on photography. Recent exhibitions of her work have been held in Toronto and Detroit. Currently she is pursuing an MFA at the San Francisco Art Institute.
Please join us July 16th for the opening. Morgan is showing new work in video and still photography. The exhibition will be on view through September 25th, 2011.
