Action at a Distance: Relocating Reality
Location: Eastwing and Project Space, Building 944 Ticket Info: FREE Admission Francis Bacon's theory of perception, based on the transmission of likeness through an intervening medium, was surplanted in the 14th century by Occam's arguably simpler model of action at a distance. Today, artists working with new media and network technologies are experimenting with new modes of action at a distance and challenging assumptions about the reliability of remote perception. Artists Ken Goldberg (AIR '08), Renetta Sitoy, and Luther Thie (AIR '08) present recent work; perspectives by Tanya Zimbardo, SFMOMA Asst. Curator of Media Arts, and Headlands Director Gary Sangster will initiate a dialogue with the audience about mediated experiences, artistic interventions, and other relocations of reality.
