Time x Time
NCLINE GALLERY is pleased to present Time x Time, an exhibition of the works of three Bay Area artists investigating the ever-binding yet elusive concept of time. Randy Colosky, Alicia Escott and Nicolas Torres bring to the space works that take on the complexities of how time functions- from doing time to geological time to nostalgia—and the folly of trying to change the past. In Time x Time conceptual artist Randy Colosky extends his practice of working with utilitarian materials and processes. Delving in to the castaway world of thrift stores, garage sales and YouTube, he takes objects that now exist beyond their original usefulness and deconstructs what is left as a way of transforming the objects into symbolic gestures of loss, nostalgia and the unavoidable march of time. In his work, San Francisco native and graduate of UC Berkeley’s Philosophy Department Nicolas Torres often questions the ethics of urban renewal. Influenced by his and his family’s own experiences with the penal system, Torres’ new video installation approaches time in its captive state, exposing the relativity of time as it pertains to the coping mechanisms of solitude. Often working with ephemeral materials, Alicia Escott’s work, like Colosky’s, demonstrates an immediate interest in the layering and passage of time. In this exhibition, Escott's work serves to catalogue the contemporary use of commodified wildlife imagery as a metaphor for loss and change. Tapping into a collective feeling of heartbreak, Escott approaches romance in geologic time scales, collapsing the lineage of evolution. Time x Time will run from July 29th through Aug 27th. Please join us for the Opening reception Friday July 29th 6-9pm
