If you missed the opening night talk of Seeing Gertrude Stein: Five Stories by co-curator Wanda M. Corn, then be sure not to miss the fascinating and engaging Corn as she looks at how and why the genre of portraiture has rarely been considered central in modernism. For Stein and her circle of friends, Corn argues, making portraits of one another became an essential means of declaring allegiances, seeking favors, and forming identities.
Stein wrote dozens of innovative word-portraits and in return, painters, photographers, sculptors, and composers, showered her with images of herself.
