Night Vision presents Form and Fantasy: An Evening with Desirée Holman, Sunday August 24th at 8 pm at The Climate Theater. The evening will screen selections from Desirée Holman's not too be missed video work. Desirée's use of exaggeration and fantasy leak into an apparently real world setting, where playfully masked characters peer out from heavy disguise and romp about in hermetically confined environments.
Desirée Holman skewers our perceptions by distorting the way people appear and presenting the face as an illusion. If our worlds are self-contained stages and our bodies are hollowed constructs, what lies beneath?
Bio:
Desirée Holman's process involves fabricating figurative props, which are manipulated in role-playing games. The work uses games of make-believe to illuminate our behaviors and desires in the :real" world. Her work has been exhibited internationally at galleries and
screenings. In February 2009, her new work will be featured in a group exhibition at the SF MOMA.

Night Vision:
Night Vision is an experimental cinema series that screens the work of emerging film, video and performance artists. The three curators, Jen Cohen, Brendan Leonard, and Kaliisa Conlon, work collaboratively to present both group and solo events. Night Vision seeks out both Bay Area and international artists. The series serves as an avant-garde screening ground and a place to generate discussions of experimental cinema and new media.
The Climate Theater:
The Climate Theater is an alternative arts space in San Francisco's SOMA district that encourages the development of non-traditional performance and experimental work. Established in 1985, Climate is known for such innovative landmark programs as the Solo Mio Festival and is currently home to the weekly Night Vision Experimental Cinema Series and a wide variety of new circus and other theatrical events. The Climate Theater is run by artistic director Jessica Heidt, formerly of The Magic Theatre.
