Don Soker Contemporary Art is pleased to announce Tim Rice “Recent Paintings” an exhibition from September 17 – October 29. Most of the work shown in the current exhibition is more reductive than in the past in regards to palette and methods of execution while the range of materials have become more expansive: mineral powders, waxes, alumina hydrate... Often a single base color with either a darker or lighter complement is applied in repetitive motion with either tool, brush, or in some cases, gravity alone. The horizontal linearity in some of this work unavoidably evokes landscape and invites a contemplative regard. Things appear to be coming into or receding from view. Like the acquiring of knowlege, we go towards it or perhaps it’s always presencing, coming towards us. We accumulate glimpses, then forget; remember and forget again. About these paintings he says “This choice of work continues my ongoing search and experiment – a step along the way. The implication being that nothing is finished. I’ve always worked through instinct and intuition, wrestling the duality of intention and non-intention.” A resident of the Bay Area for many years, this will be the fourth solo exhibition for Tim Rice with Don Soker Contemporary Art.
