Andrew Burgess, San Francisco, Always the Same, Always Good, vintage collage, acrylic on panel, 11 x 14 inches, 2011

Andrea Schwartz Gallery is pleased to announce Admit Eight, a group exhibition featuring new work by Ashley Adams, Cara Barer, Jamie Brunson, Andrew Burgess, Narangkar Glover, Pang-Chieh Hsu, Gordon Huether, and Barbara Kronlins opening Wednesday, September 14 (no reception). “My paintings are autobiographical fragments framed within the psychological space of a landscape.” --Narangkar Glover Based on an introspective investigation into her early life, Narangkar Glover’s paintings begin as a snapshot of a memory and evolve into something new. Though the new creation does not replace the memory, it stands in lieu of it, as a reclamation with it’s own characteristics. “My process is an attempt to blur the line between object, sculpture, and photography.” – Cara Barer Cara Barer’s archival digital photographs seek to document the physical evolution of the common found object into a sculpture in the state of flux. In an age of when the Internet is quickly becoming the primary source of information, Barer’s photographs act as a lament for the passing of an era when printed materials were considered the pathway to knowledge. “My passion for architecture led to me building cityscapes in collage, using hundreds of pieces of cut and pasted paper; vintage ephemera collected over the last fifteen years.” --Andrew Burgess Andrew Burgess uses the visual and textual nature of collected matchbooks, ticket stubs, and old menus among other things, to build cityscapes and urban scenes, careful to capture the nostalgia and glamour of each place. Andrea Schwartz Gallery was established in 1982 and is located in the South of Market district of San Francisco. ASG exhibits contemporary work of emerging to mid-career artists from the Bay Area and across the country. ASG is a member of SFADA. Gallery Hours are Monday - Friday 9 - 5, Saturday 1 – 5. The gallery will be closed September 29 and October 8.
