Movie Stars and Monsters
Where: Headlands Center for the Arts, Building 944, Eastwing and Project Space How: FREE admission Jillian Mcdonald explores the collective unconscious as it manifests in popular media, investigating our shared fears and desires. Performing as Everywoman, she inserts herself into public spaces - directing a horror film in a Toronto park with passersby performing zombie roles, for example - and composites herself into scenes from Hollywood films, kissing well-known actors or screaming at monsters. These frequently funny interventions appropriate the languages of romance and horror fantasies, turning them on end by inviting participation from formerly passive audiences. Jillian Mcdonald is Headlands' current Project Space artist. Visit her studio any Tuesday-Friday & Sunday from noon - 5PM in our Project Space Gallery (3rd Floor, Building 944) through the first week in September. During her Headlands residency, Mcdonald invites visitors to be part of two scary video installations. Visit her studio and participate before September 6: email her or visit her website for more information.
