Folktales Across the African Diaspora | Dancing the Diaspora with Ayodele KinchenPost an Event »

Introducing a new interactive program series for children and their families of storytelling, performance and crafts from Africa, North America, South America and the Caribbean. In this program, Ayodele Kinchen tells stories of rites of passage, reflecting life-changing occurrences of modern day African-American children in the United States and that of children in traditional African societies. Using the artistic expression of Congolese song, music and dance, participants will learn to appreciate the differences and similarities of growing up as an adolescent in these separate and unique worlds. Participants will make and design their own personal drum in celebration of African culture and its modern and traditional use by African sub-cultures throughout the Diaspora. Ayodele Kinchen is a member of Fua Dia Congo Congolese dance company in Oakland. Folktales Across the African Diaspora is presented by Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) in partnership with Arts and Literacy in Children’s Education (ALICE). Free with MoAD Admission.
