Rare Device would like to invite you to the closing reception of Unraveled and These Friends of Mine, new illustrations and works on wood from San Francisco, CA based artist Nidhi Chanani on Friday, October 28 6-8PM
In her delicate and playful illustrations These Friends of Mine, Chanani creates a space where imaginary friends accompany children and adults in their explorations of the world around them. With rich lighting and texture, the artist produces an intimate vision of harmony and whimsy. Reminiscent of traditional illustration, these digital pieces are available as limited editions for the show.
Unraveled is Chanani's first collection of wood burnings. With a contemporary approach to pyrography, the artist created the pieces by burning each line and symbol into raw wood. Intricate, henna-like patterns are combined with her signature figures. These labor-intensive pieces are expressions of the artist's Indian heritage and combine a modern, storytelling edge.
The theme of the show reflects the sentimental connection to our childhoods and our cultural roots. Through visual layers, the artist invites us to lose and find ourselves in a world of wonder.
