Dark Star Black Flash by Maggie Preston, detail
Opening Reception: November 11, 6:30 – 8:30pm Klea McKenna and Maggie Preston both use the bare photographic necessities – paper and light – to make images. In Dark Star Klea McKenna makes site-specific photograms using the historic Theater Artaud building as both her subject and her darkroom. Just as in theatrical performance, these images rely on the power of total darkness to conjure fiction and allow fantasy to arise. In Maggie Preston’s Black Flash, she “marks” 24 sheets of unexposed paper with the flash of a point & shoot camera. This blinding light is reversed and a black form emerges. These images are presented as a grid like a single second from a film broken up into individual frames. www.kleamckenna.com www.maggiepreston.com Gallery Hours: Tue. - Fri. from 1-5pm
