The Edges of the Forest
Photographic and installation-based works from emerging Bay Area artists Kristine Eudey and Jonathan Loomis documenting, investigating, and re-imagining the territories between built and wild, seen and framed. Loomis presents a body of images loosely connected by the flow of water, latent histories, and the everyday experiences of the natural world resulting from various investigations into what we desire physically, emotionally, and aesthetically from our open spaces, how these desires have been fulfilled by past and present structures, and what the individual’s role in these structures is. Eudey’s work engages the collective perception of landscape and the messy edges around which we come to experience the earth itself through this ordering of the world. The view as a particular mode of being, a rationale, an ordered narrative. The land itself as a thing, a body, a network. Using the tension of this dissonance as a starting point she presents a set of photographic and installation-based works that puts into question and plays with these perceived boundaries, examining the places these logics play out and bear witness to one another. Lobot Gallery 1800 Campbell St. / Oakland OPENING: Saturday, December 10, 2011. 7-10 p.m. OPEN HOURS: Sundays 4-8 p.m.
