Gallery Hijinks is proud to present Chromatics and Canopies a two person exhibition by Treasure Frey and Kyle Jorgensen. Frey's most recent body of work is based on rainbows contained, a personal ode to rainbows that attempts to capture it's fleeting rare beauty and hold it a moment longer. While Jorgensen's collection of new paintings draw inspiration from both the constructed world, natural symbols, and the enigmatic nature of the cosmos. Aside from color and design similarities, the notion of energy and geometry takes a major role in the curation of these two artist's work. Please join us for the opening reception on January 7th, 2012 from 6-10pm.
A continuation of her inner dialog, Treasure Frey's collages made with walnut stained paper, acrylic paint and varnish are a layered joining of separate entities: color, shape, and negative space. A visible translation of energy forms multi-faceted polychromatic labyrinths, allowing the viewer to follow the lines and colors, silencing the cacophony of the mind and focus on the viewers chosen path.
Treasure Frey graduated Cum Laude from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1997 and received her BFA in Communication Arts. She has had several solo shows from coast to coast including Like the Spice in Brooklyn, NY, Lake Gallery in San Francisco, and GLO’s in Seattle, Washington. Her work has been added to several private collections in both New York in California. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
Geometric lines, architectural design and repeating patterns of bold color creates a three dimensionality in Kyle Jorgensen's new collection of acrylic paintings. Within the starry galaxies of a midnight aurora borealis an un-earthly mass of land floats into existence. Bold lines of cantilevered buildings, the detailed patch of doug fir trees on the crest of the hill, and the expansive unending universe, are all sources of stimulation for Kyle Jorgensen's work. Drawing from his surroundings, the artist examines both the constructed world and natural symbols.
A recent graduate of Idaho State University with an emphasized in printmaking and ceramics, Kyle Jorgensen's choice mediums currently are painting and drawing. He has been published in such magazine as Blanket, Carpaccio, and The Haunted Fortress and has received glowing reviews on art websites such as Burstoid, Beautiful Decay, Picdit, Existing Visual, and Afghan Raiders. He currently lives and works in Portland Oregon.
The exhibition opens January 7th, 2012 and will be on display until January 28th, 2012 and is open to the public.
