New Waters Black'n'Blue, pastel and ink on paper, 32 x 32 inches
Artist Reception: Thursday, February 2nd 5-7pm K Imperial Fine Art presents New Waters, a series of large scale ethereal drawings by Balarus born, California based Mila Libman. The work featured in New Waters is based on photographs taken by the artist during the past few summers in Gold Lake, California. The drawings are rendered from the photographs with the intention of blurring the line between representation and abstraction. Using charcoal and ink, Libman curates from the images, selecting parts and or combining forms from several images. What results is a nearly photographic body of work, drawings full of presence that evoke a sense of light, form and shape. The work is reminiscent of abstracted photographic seascapes that draw us inward. In these meditative images our eye is guided between a focus on the background and foreground--- drawings that mirror a photographic narrow depth of field where the studies of water become abstractions of light and water. As her intentions state, Libman's ethereal and elegant drawings share "that internal feeling that we get looking at vast body of water" with the viewer. New Waters opens on February 1st and continues through February 29th. The artist reception is on February 2nd from 5-7pm. K Imperial Fine Art is located in 49 Geary Building in downtown San Francisco. Hours are from Wednesday through Saturday from 11am - 6pm.
