In Conversation with Alice Shaw and Paul Madonna
Please join us for a conversation with artist Alice Shaw and Paul Madonna. Friday, April 20th 7 to 9 PM Our current exhibition, Landscape Update, explores the tradition of landscape as a subject in both art history and in social commentary. Alice’s unique sensibilities and choices create humorous and poetic moments that capture her view on the world. Similar to Alice, Paul Madonna's work looks to the world around him. Both artists' work asks, how do we define a place and how does a place help to define us? Alice Shaw is trained as a photographer but regularly employs other media to express her ideas. The exhibition presents work in a variety of mediums including painting, sculpture and photography. She is observing the death of painting, the death of photography and the death of the object through our shifting consciousness of the land. Don't miss Alice's walk through of the exhibition, this Saturday, April 14th, 3 to 5 PM Paul Madonna produces the strips All Over Coffee for the San Francisco Chronicle and SF Gate and Small Potatoes for The Rumpus. In 2007, a collection of All Over Coffee was published by City Lights Books, and the second collection, Everything Is Its Own Reward, was released in April 2011.
