Everything Changes Everything Changes
"Everything Changes" is a physically surreal double show of Llewelynn Fletcher's "POWERPHERNALIA" inhabitable sculptures and Atsuko Morita's dreamy "Transitory" pinhole photographs. Moving glances of softened seascapes brush the walls as perceptions of space are transformed by queer howling, rumbling through cracks in the floorboards. Felt masks float upon your body as a chair rocks you with the waves. Interact with this artwork from June 1st to 22nd at Make Hang. Opening Reception: Jun 1st 6pm-9pm Closing Party: Jun 22nd 6pm-9pm Llewelynn Fletcher: I have found that sound and space can be tools to accentuate silence and activate listening. The work exhibited at Make Hang Gallery in June 2012 is a new series called POWERPHERNALIA – an exploration of personal power through a range of materials and forms including garments (POWER SUITS), a rocking chair (POWER SEAT), and a series of felt masks (TRANSFORMATION MASKS). I see these pieces as an exciting new expansion of my inhabitable sculptures made for listening to one's own inner space and body. I am investigating the notion that both clothing & architecture are structures built around the body -- merging a spatial, material, & physical engagement with questions of potential transformation and change. These structures shift our perception of our external vulnerability, and it is perhaps this perceived safety that can allow an increased vulnerability and receptivity, and with that an increased sense of possibility and power. llfletcher.com Atsuko Morita: With her work, Transitory, Atsuko Morita is attempting to show how nothing stays forever just like moving clouds, ocean waves or life itself. Her photography gives the pictures a surreal look almost like a dream. These chromogenic color prints capture the beauty of nature as seen through the pinhole camera. These original prints were made in the darkroom from a pinhole camera that she made herself. atsukomorita.com
