Performing Community - Exploring South of Market
July 6–28, 2012, SOMArts Cultural Center invites you to explore the diverse communities, thriving creative pockets, and hidden histories of San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood, SOMA, through the gallery exhibition and events accompanying Performing Community. New projects by exhibiting artists Susan Greene, Marlon Sagana Ingram (MSI), Kitsch House, Mobile Arts Platform (MAP) and Network of Daily Experience (NODE) present the various histories of SOMA and invite community contributions to ever-developing narratives through interactive installations and creative projects which answer the question: how is community built and practiced? Youth from the San Francisco Rock Project will perform at 7pm during the opening reception for Performing Community, Friday, July 6, 6–9pm. For gallery hours and information about free to attend events, such as a SOMA walking tour, neighborhood bar hop, and community archive workshop, visit http://www.somarts.org/performingcommunity.
