Opening Reception, Friday, Nov. 21, 5:30 - 7:30pm In the project room, Jon Brumit presents Monsanto's Workshop (Kernel Square Wave), a multidisciplinary re-creation of secret early Monsanto Labs. This combination R&D think-tank and unnatural history exhibit was created by Brumit under the influence of corn-based foods ingested in hopes of divining truths about genetic modification and intellectual property. The installation is focused largely on variations of hacked and reorganized corn and makes use of sound transmission, photos and video. Jon Brumit is a multi-media artist who received his MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. He has exhibited at Chelsea Art Museum, MOCA Detroit, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and most recently at the 2008 Whitney Biennial with Neighborhood Public Radio (NPR).
