Grito De La Misión: Opening reception for InterFace, Mission Voices Summer 2012 Youth Exhibition
Southern Exposure invites you to join Mission Voices Summer youth, artists, and community partners for El Grito de la Misión, a final celebration of Mission Voices Summer 2012. The event includes an exhibition of new work, a performance by Mission Voices Summer artists, food and refreshments. The event is free and open to the public. Southern Exposure's Mission Voices Summer (MVS) is an intensive summer youth program led by local artists that culminates with an opening event and exhibition on view to the public. The 2012 Mission Voices Summer theme, InterFace, asks the question “how do we put meaning back into the way we interact and communicate? What does it mean to connect with other people in the world, analog and digital alike, in a direct and meaningful way?” Razzle Dazzle, led by Cara Levine and Lizzy Cross, uses urban camouflage to explore the interaction between physicality and location. Claire Rabkin and Larisa Minerva facilitate The MVS Music Machine, a student operated kinetic sculpture that uses analog mechanics to produce sound as part of a large-scale interactive installation. Grace Hwang and Isaac Vazquez lead Mission Sites, Mission Sights, a project that examines the interface of game design as an important site of human connection.
