“Champagne for my real friends and real pain for my sham friends” - Francis Bacon.
Anne Colvin becomes her own guest, an interesting proposition in itself. Anne will give out free copies of Fool's Gold, a press based in Scotland run by artist Lucy Keany. The first issue Practice and Improvisation in Performance includes contributions from Anne, Vlatka Horvat, Gail Pickering, Ryan Gander, Graham Parker, Simon Bedwell, Beagles and Ramsay and Matt Keegan. Anne will read her piece Frank, sourced from Amy Winehouse song titles and words from Fool's Gold project brief.
Anne Colvin is an artist and co-founder of TART, an internationally renowned project space based in San Francisco. Anne has most recently shown at Gavin Brown's Enterprise @ Passerby, New York; Lowsalt Gallery, Glasgow; The Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop; Worksound, Portland and has been included in projects at Matt's Gallery, London; Gasworks, London; The San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery; Art LA and The Poetic Research Bureau, Los Angeles. She is currently in Mare Street Biennale 08, London.
Some time later a video projection of glam artist Tobias Bernstrup performing at Club Scenografica, Berlin - a film, a stage design and a book project conceived by Annika Larsson – heats things up. Annika has exhibited extensively throughout Europe and the US including at the Venice Biennale and Art Basel, as well as having solo exhibitions at the ICA in London and the Andrea Rosen Gallery, New York. She has had a long standing collaboration with Tobias Bernstrup and was director of photography on various Vanessa Beecroft performances. Tobias will be performing on the opening night of The Possibility of an Island at MoCA North Miami on Dec. 4th.
Critic Maura Reilly wrote in Art in America in 2004, "Larsson has consistently sought to expose masculinity as a performance, and to explore male power plays of domination and submission."
As night falls Pete Nelson will redistill aged bottles of whisky. What will be left is the whisky without its age, transforming the liquor into a new body-- one that refers to a simultaneous self. “People are really interested in what they’re drinking, and where it comes from. I hope the gesture can disrupt expectations about authorships” - Pete Nelson.
Nelson was granted the MFA residences at the Headlands Center for the Arts for 06 and accepted a residency at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. He has recently exhibited at New Langton Arts, San Francisco; Blank Space, Oakland; Queens Nails Annex, San Francisco and Berekeley Art Museum amongst others.
Near closing time, when we are all feeling drunk and maudlin The Untitled Warhol Project, a sound piece by Jonas Mekas plays. The contents of this audio cassette were recorded by Mekas with a hand-held tape recorder at Andy Warhol's Memorial Service April 1, 1987 (courtesy Zing magazine).
LIGHTS OUT.
