In-Gallery Talks: Gail Dawson, Chris Finley, Victor De La RosaPost an Event »

As part of the SF State Art Department Faculty Exhibition, professors discuss their work. Dawson is chair of the Art Department and teaches painting and drawing. Her work explores the interference of media with images, and time and motion. She works between mediums translating video to paintings and drawings, and paintings and drawings to video. Finley, professor of painting and drawing, holds a B.F.A. from the Art Center College of Design. The Los Angeles Times writes. “Finley’s terrifically idiosyncratic art is so far out of step with what is hip and trendy that it makes you think he might be out of his mind. But it’s also so inventive, unpretentious and engaging that you’d be nuts not to take it seriously.” De La Rosa explores the boundaries and intersection of technology, art and design within textiles. His specialty and studio practice centers on computer-interfaced weaving and printing technology utilizing jacquard power looms, digital fabric printers and laser cutters. Through the use of this various media he examines the convergence of technology, stereotype, history and race as one reaction to the Mexican-American experience.
