Home Movie Day Oakland
The Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) hosts Home Movie Day 2012 on Friday, October 26, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. in the Museum's state-of-the-art James Moore Theater. An international program observed by over 50 cities and 13 countries worldwide, Home Movie Day is an initiative of the Center for Home Movies that highlights the cultural significance of home movies and the need to properly preserve them as artifacts of culture. In honor of OMCA's exhibition Forgotten Stories, Remarkable Lives: Dias de los Muertos 2012, on view October 10 through December 9, applicants are especially encouraged to submit films honoring loved ones that have passed away and remembering local heroes and heroines who may not have made it into history books but have made an impact in their communities. Early drop-off film submissions require an appointment and must be received at OMCA by Sunday, September 16, 2012. For a submission form and drop-off information, call Pamela Jean Vadakan at (510) 642-4665 or email oaklandhomemovies@gmail.com. Home Movie Day submissions are also welcome between 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. on the day of the event, but screening time cannot be guaranteed. Film may be limited to one reel per person. All submissions will be reviewed and inspected by film archivists. Home Movie Day is included with Museum admission. Home Movie Day screenings will take place during the finale of Summer Nights at OMCA, which features half-price admission after 5 p.m., extended hours, and special activities throughout the Museum. Home Movie Day is organized at the Oakland Museum of California by Pamela Jean Vadakan.
