Befitting his interest in music—Newsome has staged rap battles and produced a video mixtape called Swag—in 2011 he was selected to participate in MTV’s re-launch of Art Breaks videos, produced in partnership with MoMA PS1 and Creative Time. Newsome was also featured in the 2010 Whitney Biennial, where he exhibited a performance piece dedicated to the dance form of “vogueing,” and in the 2011 Venice Biennale. Other exhibition venues include Marlborough Gallery, New York; the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, Hartford, Connecticut; the New Museum, New York; and the Garage Center for Contemporary Culture, Moscow.
