The Lab - New work by Maya Kabat, curated by mosshouse

The Lab, a solo exhibition of new work by Maya Kabat in the SFMOMA Café Opening Reception: Thursday, December 6 5-6:30 pm We are pleased to announce the second collaborative project between the Maya Kabat and mosshouse. This solo exhibition is a part of Kabat’s ongoing creative process, which explores architectural forms, CA light, geometric abstraction and the tension between balance, color and form. The work, in thick applications of oil paint, is executed with an intense level of physicality. This exhibition explores ways of installing Kabat’s work in patterns and modular formations, which show the connectivity of individual works to each other. Kabat received a Master of Fine Arts in 2000 from the University of California, Davis. Notable exhibitions include a solo show at the SFMOMA Artists Gallery, San Francisco, California in 2009, and a two-person exhibition, curated by Jennings, at 5 Claude Lane Gallery in San Francisco, CA in 2011 that was reviewed in Art Ltd. Magazine in September 2011. This year she will be a part of group exhibition at the Dairy Center for the Arts in Boulder, Colorado. She is also a founding member of the artist-run space, Mercury Twenty Gallery, in Oakland, California. Notable public collections include Kaiser Permanente, Oakland, Cisco Systems, Palo Alto, and Neiman Marcus Collection, Walnut Creek, California and Dallas, Texas. Kabat recently completed a commission for Wood Partners, LLC that was permanently installed in the lobby at Domain Residential in Oakland, California. The exhibition is curated by Scott S.
