Lunchtime Lecture: Illuminating Downtown San JosePost an Event »

Barbara Goldstein, public art director, City of San Jose Office of Cultural Affairs, will give a Lunchtime Lecture at the San Jose Museum of Art. Her topic will be the city's Illuminating Downtown Program, which recently received a grant from ArtPlace America. The city is commissioning four pilot projects during the first year of this long-term initiative: a beacon, a gateway, a way-finding project, and place for public interaction. Goldstein will present designs for several of the pilot projects, including a dramatic “gateway” under the freeway by Dan Carson. The lecture is free with Museum admission ($8 adults, $5 seniors and students, free to members). Barbara Goldstein is the Public Art Director for the City of San Jose Office of Cultural Affairs and the editor of Public Art by the Book, a primer published by Americans for the Arts and the University of Washington Press. Prior to her work in San Jose, Goldstein was Public Art Director for the City of Seattle, and she has worked as a cultural planner, architecture and art critic, editor, and publisher.
