Swarm Gallery is pleased to present an evening of radical and experimental music and image-making with performances by Beep, Kim Cass, PIKI, and Ross Peacock as part of Sound Salon, a six-program musical series.
The much lauded but seldom seen Oakland-based trio Beep (Nate Brenner, Michael Coleman, Sam Ospovat) is working on a new album. Their set for Sound Salon will be a rare chance to catch a glimpse at the direction the three composers/improvisers are heading towards in 2013.
Oakland bassist Kim Cass promises a solo set of original music for the acoustic bass and electronic looper. He’ll be presenting his melodically compelling, rhythmically complex compositions which are breaking new ground as multidimensional vehicles for improvisation.
Sam Ospovat’s solo project, PIKI, will offer a version of Tow Away Zone from his new album. This piece for amplified egg timer, hand bells, gamelan angklung, acoustic bass, and 6-10 improvising musicians will incorporate the choreographed pedestrian movements of 5 modern dancers, lead by Megan Kurashige. Ross Peacock, of the Oakland band Mwahaha, will end the night with a DJ set of ’70s German space rock.
