Old Crow Tattoo and Gallery presents Friends and Lovers A collaborative art exhibition and experience New artworks and installations by Shrine, Lauren Napolitano, Andrew Luck and Charlotte Drury Opening reception: February 14, 2013 @ 8pm On view until March 23, 2013 Old Crow Tattoo and Gallery 362 Grand Ave Oakland, CA "Friends and Lovers" is an art exhibition that hopes to examine the varying relationships between artists and their artwork by curating a show based on the artists' experiences with each other. More so than solely making decisions on the merits of each person's artwork individually; a simple framework was put in place by choosing 2 groups of artists: one set as "friends" and one set as "lovers". The exhibition speaks to trials and tribulations relationships can endure, while also highlighting how a nurturing and loving artistic partnership can be reflected within art. This statement can be applied to both groups interchangeably, thus making the inter-connectivity of the artists and the artwork soo interesting and vital. Artistic relationships are very special. This opening reception falls on a holiday of sorts that observes platonic and romantic relationships. The simplistic essence of Valentine's Day creates a certain childlike energy and innocence. It's up to the viewer to acknowledge these parallels, or to find solace in the artwork itself, free of curatorial direction. Lauren and Shrine were introduced to each other while working with the gallery, while Andrew and Charlotte have been together as an artist couple since the beginning of their exhibiting at Old Crow. The artists will be creating work collaboratively in each group, as well as individually. We hope you enjoy these artists' versions of friendship and love. ~~ SHRINE is a self-taught guerrilla, folk mixed media and performance artist. I take notes. Collect things I find during my travels. Document my findings. Notice patterns, Copy. Trace. Focus on one thing at a time. Record and follow what I am drawn to. It is my job to create space for what has been left behind. To preserve the history of others.” Charlotte Drury Charlotte Drury was born in 1990 in Hermosa Beach, California and grew up in San Diego for the majority of her adolescence. She received her BFA in Printmaking (2012) from San Francisco State University. Charlotte lives and works in Berkeley, California. Andrew Luck His work focuses on nature and it's interaction with mankind. The world he paints shows the struggle between the often opposing sides. His paintings illuminate the possibilities of co-existing with this planet we live on and not just taking from it ~~ Hosted by Philip Milic Opening Treats Provided by Laced Cakes Bakery and MesoHungry SF http://www.facebook.com/LacedCakesBakery http://twitter.com/MeSoHungryTruck
