ShadowLight presents a special "sneak peek" work-in-progress presentation of its latest project, THE REBIRTH OF APSARA, a new experimental shadow dance theatre work created by shadow master Larry Reed and master classic Cambodian dancer/choreographer Charya Burt.
THE REBIRTH OF APSARA explores the notion of memories and how they shape an individual’s experience of life, using traditional Cambodian and modern dance vocabularies as vehicles. Charya spent her impressionable years under the Khmer Rouge regime and her growth into a master dancer was greatly influenced by the few artists who survived the atrocities. Against the backdrop of tumultuous modern Cambodian history, REBIRTH will piece together sensory imprints and fragmented stories unearthed from Charya’s memories in a kaleidoscopic manner achieved by Larry Reed’s original shadowcasting technique.
The fans of ShadowLight's work, take note! For this project, Larry is experimenting with new light sources for the first time in more than 10 years. So it would be a treat to see what he's up to and get a glimpse of the process incorporating and adjusting to the new technology! The 30 minute performance will be followed by a Q&A with Charya, Larry Reed and other artists.
