abstraction naturally

Rather than depicting nature in their work, the artists Featured in c2c/wc’s exhibition Abstraction Naturally instead have used nature as a springboard. From this starting point they reach towards more universal truths that are then represented using abstract means. Including a range of methods, Abstraction Naturally shows how the geometric growths painted by Deborah Zlotsky , the meditative compositions of Sandra Russell, the blown up photographic image of Inga Dorosz, the bulbous sculpture of Lauren Davies, and the painted forms of Benjamin King can leave natural depiction behind in favor of something broader than simple representation can reveal. In this way these artists aim to distill their motif down to an essence of experiential value that speaks more about nature and our place within it than the simple rendering of natural elements can achieve.
