Please join us for a special talk with acclaimed artist Guy Diehl. Guy Diehl approaches realism with quiet consideration and a subtle hand. In his illustrated talk at the Richmond Art Center he will share his views on realism and his methods in rendering calm beauty while conjuring life into objects that seem to breathe on the canvas. Diehl works within a tradition of still life painting in which each object holds meaning in its relationship to the other players on the stage and each shadow presents itself as counterpoint to the illuminated. Objects evoke the spirits of canonical artists and the tools of the trade are laid out on the altar – homage to the craft and the mysterious alchemy of a master’s hand. With exquisitely refined tonal rendering, Diehl creates a nuanced sense of form and space. Widely exhibited, Guy Diehl’s work resides in museums including the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the Oakland Museum of California, San Jose Museum of Art and many public collections. Guy Diehl (born 1949, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is an American artist best known for still life paintings and prints, many of which incorporate direct references to historically significant artists and artworks.
