Autumn Artists In Residence at Free Oakland UP!
For the months of September, October, and November, Sarah Hirneisen and Susanna Corcoran have been using materials found at Free Oakland UP to create artworks. Their three month residencies will culminate in an exhibition of free art in December.
Susanna Corcoran is a photographer, writer and mother of three, living in Oakland, CA. Her work for Free Oakland UP will focus on glass slides of brain scans. Susanna has BA in Literary Non-Fiction Writing from Hampshire College, and an MFA in Studio Art from Mills College. Her photographs can be seen at www.circa1973.com.
Sarah Hirneisen's project for Free Oakland UP draws on her experience trying to balance being both a mother and working artist by exploring the gender associated with materials and everyday objects. Sarah has her BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and her MFA from Mills College. When not in the studio or having fun with her two young daughters, Sarah is teaching Sculpture & Drawing at San Francisco City College. Her work can be seen on her website: www.sarahhirneisen.com
Free Oakland UP is a multi-purpose art space offering art resources and an eclectic mix of household items for free!
