Art Works Downtown presents Bob Nugent: Dialogues with Nature. Nugent’s work refers to his travels in Brazil, specifically along the Amazon River Basin. Naturalistic forms resembling beehives, vertebrae, cocoons, anthills, plant forms, and insects are spread across the surface of his paintings, drawings and sculpture. The work transcribes a memory of objects and impressions of what was seen and felt. Brazil and the Amazon River Basin have been the subject and inspiration for Nugent’s work for more than twenty-five years.
Dialogues with Nature brings together work from four different series which have not been shown together before, and spans a period from 2006 to 2013. The nearly 30 pieces in the exhibition include large-scale paintings, works on paper, works on wood veneer, and sculptures. Nugent is a Professor Emeritus from Sonoma State University, and is a recipient of a Fulbright Foundation Grant, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, and numerous other awards, fellowships, and grants. His work is held in major museums and collections throughout the world. Bob Nugent lives and works in Healdsburg, CA. The exhibition was curated by Satri Pencak, independent curator.
The exhibition opens to the public on Friday, October 25, with a reception for the artist on Friday, November 8, 5 to 8 p.m. and continues through November 22, 2013.
