dress for this' is a call to action — an invitation and a demand, a caution and a certainty, a dilemma and an opportunity.
a shifting interplay between the mediums of sculpture, filmmaking, and painting, bon/anza 3 : dress for this is the fourth collaborative exhibition by the artists conrad guevara, lindsay tully, and lana williams. their practice examines forms of contingency through a collapsing and continuity of work that inscribes their spirited partnership in formal compositions and display.
in consideration of the way that presentation attributes, masks, and alters meaning, individual pieces within their installation change character in relation to each other. material, spacial, and temporal differences present themselves, blend, and melt away in flashes of motion, color and light. as formal definitions blur, so too does the distinction between the artists' individual practices, a strategic challenge to the value of authorship and the fixity of identity. in doing so, bonanza places the viewer at the heart of the exchange.
rather than imagine an erasure of divisions or a muting of individual voices, this work and its transformations examines the way that meaning relies on recognition. engendering alter-identities and new sets of relations, bonanza's collaboration, the space, and the public together propose multiplicities of experience, a game of appearing and being, and being anew.
supplementing this installation is a screening of films november 16 , as well as a major book release december 6 — including contributions by marion anthonisen, laura boles faw, cathy fairbanks, sarah hotchkiss and carey lin, aaron harbour and jackie im, lovett / codagnone, kait mooney, amanda roscoe mayo, legacy russell, margit galanter and nicholas andre sung, chris vargas and greg youmans, and wendy yao.
