Brian Bress & James Duesing: Two Videos

Presented by Ben Bigelow

Join us for a night of space and video with 2013-2014 fellowship artists Amy Ho and Ben Bigelow. Kala’s Fellowship Program includes an annual series of public programs presented by current Fellows during their studio residencies. This talk kicks off our 2014 series. It is free of charge and open to the public.

Ben Bigelow presents two of his favorite videos: End of Code by James Duesing and Creative Ideas for Every Season by Brian Bress. Much is at stake in these works. Will a homosexual cyborg rabbit be able to hijack the city's traffic light system? Can Agnes Martin safely pilot a cardboard sedan through a sea of collage, whilst musing about the creative process? Please, do come find out. The answers are absurd, sometimes tragic, and 100% gorgeous.

Ben Bigelow was born in Los Angeles in 1985 and received his MFA in Art Practice from Stanford University in 2013. He received a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University in 2008. This year he is a Fellowship Resident at the Kala Art Institute in Berkley, CA while teaching at Stanford University. He has shows coming up at the Royal NoneSuch Gallery, Oakland, CA and at the Harlem Factory Fest in New York, NY. His videos were recently on view as part of Open Video Call at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia. He was featured in two surveys of current MFA students in Los Angeles in “Superpositions - New Wight Biennial 2012,” and in San Francisco in “MFA NOW” at Root Division Gallery. He was an artist in residence at the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, ARCE Artist Residency, WI, and The Wassaic Project, NY. He has participated in exhibitions and screenings nationally and internationally in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City and Berlin. He l ives and works in Oakland, CA.
