In connection with the Codex exhibition at Wattis Institute, swissnex San Francisco presents a program about digital publishing in the arts. Speakers include Patricia Maloney founding editor and director of Art Practical (San Francisco), Kristina Lee Podesva artist, writer and editor at Filip (Vancouver), Alexander Provan editor of Triple Canopy (Brooklyn), and Alexis Zavialoff director of Motto Distribution (Geneva, Zurich and Berlin).
For decades, digital publishing in the arts has been seen in opposition to print. Let’s look beyond this binary perception and explore the current state of publishing in contemporary art books and the responses of art producers to digital promises.
Topics discussed include what going digital—in other words, flattening the content—means in terms of knowledge, to what extent the creative process is influenced by new mediums, and how digital and print complement each other in terms of audience and substance.
