Director’s Pick includes new work by gallery artists and introduces artists Melanie Pullen and Lavender Wolf. Pullen’s photographic series High Fashion Crime Scenes recreates crime scenes in which the victims are outfitted in haute couture. The series explores our responses to violent images and how they are more shocking when beautiful women in glamorous designer clothes are involved. Pullen has exhibited internationally in museums and galleries and is well-known in San Francisco. Wolf uses collage to create simple yet detailed works from colorful cut paper, continuing in the tradition of Henri Matisse’s famous paper collages. New sculptures by Lynn Aldrich use store-bought utilitarian materials to emulate nature, such as coral reefs, and to evoke the sublime. Aldrich is a recipient of the 2014 Guggenheim Fellowship Award for Creative Arts.
