Legendary artist, activist, and former Minister of Culture for the Black Panther Party for Self Defense Emory Douglas will be sharing an artist talk at Nahl Hall on the Oakland campus of California College of the Arts.
From the founding of the BPP in 1967, Emory Douglas created iconic images of Black liberation as a director, designer, and illustrator for the Panther newspaper.
"They tell us that they we should not draw things that deal with violence. But at the same time they perpetrate the worst violence on the planet Earth while they have us drawing pictures of flowers and butterflies. We must understand that when there are over twenty million people in this country, hungry, then we, as artists, have something we must deal with..." - Emory Douglas 1972
