Erick Beltrán. "Atlas Eidolon," 2014; sculpture; 197 x 232 x 197 inches.
Erick Beltrán’s taxonomical installations fuse text and image to interrogate how editions, multiples, and reproductions alter (and define) social, cultural, and political ideologies. Through invented classification systems that play up tensions between truth and fiction, he investigates traditional mechanisms of order, value, reproducibility, and distribution. Beltrán has recently exhibition at Bienal de São Paulo; Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art; TBA21 Contemporary, Vienna; Taipei Biennial; CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts, San Francisco; among others.
