Erik Parra: In the Same River Twice

State is pleased to present new works by Erik Parra in his first ever solo show in San Francisco. "In The Same River Twice" will present a series of paintings and installation created with objects made in the studio that interact with alterations to the space. Erik Parra's current paintings and drawings focus on the construction of midcentury interiors, which are employed as tropes to ask questions about the origins of current sociopolitical narratives in the vernacular of pictorial construction. The works create conversations regarding the light and darkness subjected on an influential generation during the post-war era and the reverberations experienced in our own contemporary moment. Erik Parra received his MFA while on fellowship from University of Wisconsin Madison and has exhibited nationally in Berlin, Brazil, Los Angeles, London and New York. His work has appeared in New American Paintings and was recently reviewed by Christopher Knight in the Los Angeles Times.
