F I L F : Live Fashion & Music
F I L F is a live fashion and music extravaganza at Classic Cars West. We’re sending the wildest in Bay Area fashion down the runway with live accompaniment from some fierce and formidable music acts. It’s a little different from your traditional runway show – the looks you see on the runway may be drawn from multiple designers and stylists, and come together more around the sounds of the bands than the names on the labels. Expect to see plenty of movement and shape-shifting in pieces from Unhexing, a line by Jean Eric that was recently featured in Oakland’s Queer Fashion Week. Lucia Goodbag embroiders surveillance cameras and paints chain link patterns onto thrifted sweatshirts and pants. NIÑA PIÑA makes jumpers with bright plastic skirts and sweet, smiling faces (pictured). That’s just a few of some fifteen fashion contributors involved. F I L F is not interested in keeping anyone off the runway based on size, gender identity, or modeling experience. We require only that you give your whole heart to the show. Expect to see everyone and everything on the runway – your friends, your dogs, your dinner, and the musicians themselves. Speaking of which – there’s nary a subtle shoegazer to be seen on the F I L F lineup. Each of the musical acts performing is a force of personality on the stage. Spellling, a buzzed-about newcomer to the Oakland music scene, has a most brutal way with vocal loops and laid back rhythms. Expect The Classical to light it up with sinister beats and vocal histrionics, like a James Bond diva finally getting even. Fan favs Diesel Dudes will come through with their time-tested brand of shock punk aerobics. Also playing: serious lounge humorist Dingbat Superminx, dreamy-dance Oakland optimists from the Y.E.A.R.S. collective, hardcore psychosexual chain-yankers Tiny Head, and glam pop goblins Felix Astroblade. F I L F an Oakland punk DIY show selling out and going legit; it’s a fussy haute-couture wonderland saying F U and going rogue. It’s friends celebrating the height of summer. It’s an overblown karaoke fantasy. It’s dirty. It’s F I L F.
