Leslie Scalapino was an Oakland-based poet and experimental prose writer, often associated with the Language poets whose passing left a huge imprint on the international poetry scene. San Francisco filmmaker and curator Konrad Steiner’s feature length film is composed of six stylistically different experimental montages edited to correspond to the six sections of Scalapino’s recording of her epic poem, "way" on the soundtrack. The intention of the project is to create a cinematic space for the interplay of language and image. Footage from San Francisco street and bar life, leaked war videos, narrative and erotic films, are braided in time with the prosody, subject matter and music of the poem. Presented in collaboration with The Poetry Center at SFSU.
