Gabrielle Teschner

Irving Street Projects is thrilled to announce a new site-specific project by Bay Area artist Gabrielle Teschner. While at Irving Street Projects, Teschner will create a progressive series of large architecturally-inspired textile works exploring the natural and man-made forces that gradually transform and erode our environment. Teschner's project is both research-based and intuitive, and centers around processes of building and decomposition. She writes, “The governing idea is that the city, like a mountain range, erodes gradually to become the grains of sand that line the ocean floor.” Her project also considers concrete as the inverse of that erosion, a liquid composed of fragments of stone. Teschner will use fabric, ink washes, and paper to emulate the nature of concrete and explore its formation and decay.

Gabrielle Teschner lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area. She received her BFA in Sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2003 and her MFA from California College of the Arts in 2007. Teschner’s work is included in the permanent collection of the De Young Museum in San Francisco and has shown throughout the Bay Area at Haines Gallery, John Berggruen Gallery, Headlands Center for the Arts, and Goodnight Projects. In the Fall of 2015 her solo show The Inability of Reason opened at Chandra Cerrito Contemporary in Oakland, CA. In 2013 she was a finalist for Frieze London’s Emdash Award. Her work concerns the foundations and origins of knowledge.
