Gabrielle Teschner, Untitled, 2016, ink and seawater on muslin, 47 x 47 inches
For the past month, Gabrielle Teschner has been using the storefront space at Irving Street Projects as a workshop in preparation for her exhibition, opening up her studio practice and creative process for the community to view. Teschner’s architectural, textile-based works use fabric, ink washes, and paper to emulate the nature of concrete and explore its formation and decay. She writes, “The governing idea is that the city, like a mountain range, erodes gradually to become the grains of sand that line the ocean floor.” Her project also considers concrete as the inverse of that erosion, a liquid composed of fragments of stone.
