John Kilduff: Very Good Plus (VG+)

Opening reception and performance  March 1st, 6-9 PM.

John Kilduff, the host of Let's Paint TV, a cult television show based in Los Angeles, will bring his carnival aesthetic and delightful, sludgy paintings to Steven Wolf Fine Arts for a blow-out exhibition and opening night performance. The multi-talented artist makes abject representational works drenched in absurdity and pathos live on his show while running on a treadmill, mixing drinks and taking calls from the audience. Sounds goofy? Kilduff is one of the few people with an MFA who you might still call an outsider artist. For his project at Steven Wolf Fine Arts, Kilduff will create his own record store with low-fi translations of well-known album covers and cardboard representations of record-store paraphernalia. We can promise you a Yellow Submarine mobile hanging from the ceiling, a painting of jazz hands and a very strange disco ball.

Superior Viaduct is a San Francisco based record label that focuses on curated reissues of art-punk, free jazz, and 20th century experimental music. Releases include The Residents, Glenn Branca, DEVO, soundtracks to Andrei Tarkovsky's films, and Fluxus artist Henry Flynt — several of which were featured as Top Archival Releases of 2013 by publications such as The Wire and Fact magazine. During the run of the show, Superior Viaduct will present a series of live performances at Steven Wolf Fine Arts including legendary sax player Roscoe Mitchell, dissonant acoustic guitarist Bill Orcutt, and more.
