Jun Kaneko, 'Untitled, Wall Slab,' 2015, Hand glazed cast raku ceramics, 24.5 x 30 x 1.5
This fall the San Francisco Opera brings back Jun Kaneko’s multimedia production design for ‘The Magic Flute,’ running October 20 – November 20, 2015. In conjunction, Rena Bransten Projects, located blocks from the War Memorial Opera House, will present a project based installation of a new grouping of Kaneko’s ceramic works. On view in the project space will be his bizarrely intriguing Tanuki sculptures – colorful ceramic figures rooted in Japanese folklore – as well as his hand glazed cast raku ceramic wall slabs and a two-channel video of drawings and footage from the 2012 production of ‘The Magic Flute.’
